What are Motion Photos?
Creators' App can create 3-second Motion Photos from videos you have recorded with your camera. This preserves details of memorable scenes – including movement and sound – that can't be conveyed by photos alone.
Additionally, 15-, 30-, or 60-second short videos centered on Shot Marks that you have already added to videos can also be created and imported.
First method: Creating Motion Photos when importing videos using differential import settings
Besides Motion Photos, you can also create 15- to 60-second short videos. This option relies on Shot Marks added during recording.
Instructions
- Open the
(Cameras) screen and select [Functions available with your camera] → [Others] → [Differential import settings] → [Import videos with Shot Mark]. Then, configure the required settings as follows.
- Create Motion Photos from a video: 3-second Motion Photos (1.5 seconds before and after Shot Marks) are imported, with one Motion Photo imported for each Shot Mark. The original video itself is not imported.
- Cut into short videos: 15-, 30-, or 60-second short videos centered on Shot Marks are imported, with one short video imported for each Shot Mark. The original video itself is not imported. Select your preferred time in [Differential import settings] → [Short video length].
- Import original video: Only the original video is imported, without creating Motion Photos or short videos.
- Import the recorded video from the camera.
Second method: Creating Motion Photos when importing videos without using differential import settings
Besides Motion Photos, you can also create 15- to 60-second short videos. This option relies on Shot Marks added during recording.
Instructions
- Open the
(Cameras) screen and select [Import] to access the importing screen.
- Select [Settings] in the upper right of the screen → [Import videos with Shot Mark].
Select your preferred time in [Settings] → [Short video length].
- Import original video: Only the original video is imported, without creating Motion Photos or short videos.
- Import the recorded video from the camera.
Third method: Creating Motion Photos while playing videos
You can create a Motion Photo around your preferred position during playback. Short videos of 15–60 seconds cannot be created.
Instructions
- Open the
(Storage) screen, and in the [Smartphone] tab, select and play the source video for the Motion Photo.
- Motion Photos cannot be created from videos uploaded to the cloud.
- Pause playback at the position around which you want to create the Motion Photo.
- Tap the [Create Motion Photo] button.
- A Motion Photo is created and saved as a separate file.
- To create Motion Photos around other positions, repeat steps 2 and 3.
Playing Motion Photos
Motion Photos are stored in the same location as normal photos and videos. Play them as you would normal videos, by opening them and tapping
(Play).
- Information about the Motion Photo shooting date and time refers to when the file was created, not when the original video was recorded.
- Motion Photos are in the JPEG format, and 15- to 60-second short videos are in the same format as the original video. Sharing a Motion Photo may convert it to a different format, depending on the app or OS.
